This is a long lap pool with a "Baja Shelf"
at the shallow end and a large built-in spa at the opposite end.
This is the 'plumbing stage." Andy peers over the edge to make a
positive inspection. -June 30, 2009

Note the Baja Shelf or "Tanning Shelf"
where the water will be just shallow enough to set "loungy"
chairs.... just like in those cool Carona beer commercials. -June

Gunite -July 11, 2009
The steel and plumbing pass city inspection and the pool is gunited.
 |
Gunite -July 11, 2009
Right after all the gunite is shot, filing the steel rebar
structure, it must be "finished" -shaped, smoothed, and sculpted to
create all the desired contours. Steps, benches, ledges, and
"trademark" arm rests sculpted into the upper spa walls.
 |
Gunite stage -July 23, 2009
Once the pool/spa has been gunited, other projects may take place
and the pool can wait for the ultimate finishing touches.

Decking -Cantilever coping for pool -July 30, 2009
Before we can move on with the pool, the coping has to poured.
In this case we are doing a "cantilever" coping witch is also the
deck surrounding the whole pool. Forms are set inside the pool and
at the borders of the intended deck.
 |
Decking & Pathways -July 31, 2009
Andy grades (levels) the pathway beds preparing for the cement
pour. The pathway will lead from the front driveway around to the
back of the house, to the pool, and to part of the landscaping down
below.
 |
Decking & Pathways -July 31, 2009
A natural stone retaining wall is built between an upper and
lower part of the pathway.
 |
Decking & Pathways -CEMENT-POUR DAY-August 3, 2009
The forms are all set, deck drains in place, and the fortifying
rebar. Now we're ready to pour cement for the pathways, the deck,
and the cantilever deck of the swimming pool.
 |
Decking & Pathways -CEMENT-POUR DAY-August 3, 2009
The deck drains, the rebar, and the very important "slip-sheet"
over the bond-beam (top of the pool shell) which maintains a
separation between the pool shell and cantilever deck
preventing cracking of the pool shell itself.
 |
Decking & Pathways -CEMENT-POUR DAY-August 3, 2009
The cement is poured into the forms right on schedule.

The pouring continues while "pre-finishing" of the earlier
poured cement takes place simultaneously.

Decking & Pathways -CEMENT-POUR DAY-August 3, 2009
This cement finish will have an "acid-wash" finish which will
expose some of the more grainy aggregate of the cement giving this
deck and pathways a more natural appearance and will be skid
resistant..
 |
Decking & Pathways -FINISHED-August 4, 2009
The next day we return to wash off this snowy looking coating
which gives the cement an "acid-wash" effect.

The deck is finished.

 |
Pool/Spa Equipment Install - September 3, 2009
No wall was available to mount our very heavy combination
electric/control panel so we embedded two strong steel braces into a
cement footing to hold the panel
 |
Pebble Day - September 3, 2009
It's time to give the pool a finish.
 |
Pebble Day - September 3, 2009
After the pool finish is installed, it must sit for one day
before it is acid-washed the next day to fully expose the
aggregates. This custom finish is called "Ocean Blue" with "Mother
of Pearl" (flakes of iridescent abalone shell) and aqua-teal colored
translucent glass beads.
